Submitting your application

Please note: In addition to Bermuda, the following regions fall under the same rules as the United States: American Samoa; Guam; the Marshall Islands; the Midway Islands; the Northern Mariana Islands; Puerto Rico; Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon; and the US Virgin Islands.

To get your passport as quickly as possible, make sure your application is complete by using the checklist detailing the most common errors when applying for a passport.

To avoid unnecessary delays, please be sure to include the following with your passport application:

Submitting an application

Canadian Government offices in the United States and/or Bermuda do not provide regular passport services. Applications sent by mail must be sent to our Gatineau office in Canada.

The use of a certified courier/traceable mail service will reduce the delivery time of your application and help ensure the safety of your documents.

If you require a passport in exceptional circumstances, contact the nearest Canadian government office.

You may submit an application in person or have an application submitted on your behalf by an acceptable third party at a Passport Canada office in Canada. Please note that you must be 16 years of age or older in order to submit an application in person.

Delivery of your passport

Applications submitted by mail or courier—The passport is sent to the address of the applicant in the US by private courier service (overnight) from Passport Canada in Gatineau, Quebec.

Applications submitted in person—Whether it be submitted by the applicant himself or herself or by an acceptable third party at a Passport Canada office in Canada, the applicant has the option of delivery to the US by private courier service (overnight) or picking up the passport at a Passport Canada office in Canada (extra fees apply).

NOTE: The applicant must select either pickup or delivery to the US by private courier service (overnight) at the time of submission. A third party cannot pick up the passport on your behalf.

Picking up a child’s passport—If you are picking the passport in person, the child must be present. An acceptable third party can pick up the child’s passport in place of the applicant (the person applying on behalf of the child) if written authorization from the applicant is provided. However, the child must still be present.
